Super Smash Bros. Melee-review By Jackcrap
Intro:
Now for those of you who haven't played this game yet, (meaning you either don't have a Gamecube so why are you reading this review, have no longing for awesome multiplayer gaming, or have had your hands brutally chopped off) this is not just an upgrade to the original Smash Bros. for N64. Now aside from the updated graphics, almost 3 times as many characters , and traditional four player brawling, the game offers new nodes such as the rather challenging event match and Adventure mode.
Gameplay/Presentation
Upon first arrival at the menu screen, SSBM appears to be the original game with more characters and better graphics. But if you take the time to break the surface you'll find a wonderfully entertaining game whether you are alone or with three others (although personally I find it more fun demolishing my friends and enemies). SSBM offers many more single player options, which is great if you are bored or have no friends (or enemies). The best of the single player options has to be Event match. Event match consists of 51 goal based matches. You begin with10 and can unlock up to 30 as you complete goals. To unlock the remaining matches you must uncover the secret characters and levels. Another feature is the Trophy Gallery. Throughout the game you will find trophies or coins, which can be used to buy trophies in the Lottery. There are about 300 different trophies.
Multiplayer
The core of SSBM is of course the multiplayer mode. With a total of 25 characters everyone will be satisfied. There are many different melee modes in SSBM including giant melee, invisible melee, time, stock, tiny melee, lightning melee, slo-mo melee, stamina melee, super sudden death, and several more. But to tell you the frickin' truth just beating the crap out of my competitors and laughing at them when they thought they could beat me is all I need.
Graphics
SSBM is vastly improved over the original N64 version. Even with four players on the screen the game engine still cranks out the action at 60 frames per second. The character textures are crisp and animation is quite fluid. Anyway, graphics really isn't an issue with most next generation games because of the hardware.
Replay Value
Obviously, with multiplayer action like this it's hard to get tired of knocking around Nintendo's allstars with your friends. And even if your by yourself theirs always the Event Match, Adventure Mode, and Classic Mode.
Rating: Frickin' Awesome!!!
